The photo above is a scene in the Troodos Mountains on the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Turkey. There is one Seventh-day Adventist church in Cyprus, with 74 members. Currently, the Middle East Union is headquartered in Cyprus. MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR Husband and wife Nestor Osman and Gretel Dupertuis from Argentina have been volunteering in Royse, Norway, at Norwegian Junior College since August 2006. At the school, Nestor works as the boys’ dean and leads out in a Pathfinder group, while Gretel works in the school’s kitchen and teaches Spanish at the nearby Adventist primary school. Together, the couple also leads worships and organizes Saturday night activities. However, what Gretel calls “the real work that we do” is sharing Christian principles with students, giving them advice, and, sometimes, just lending a listening ear. “That,” says Gretel, “is what we like about being here.” Nestor and Gretel are enjoying their year in Norway and plan to return to Argentina in July. They encourage anybody who wants to volunteer to do it. As Gretel says, “God needs you and your desire to help others.” If you would like to read stories about other Adventist volunteers around the world, or learn about how you can participate in the volunteer program, go to www.adventistvolunteers.org .

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
“The first four commandments are vertical; pointing upward to show how we should treat God. The last six commandments are horizontal; pointing to show how we should treat the people around us. They make a CROSS.” |
